if you’re considering submitting to Indie Grits,
please keep the following things in mind:

1) All submissions must originate from one of the following states: SC, NC, VA, GA, FL, AL, MS, TN, LA, KY. This requirement can be satisfied in a number of ways. If you live/lived in one of these states and wrote, shot, acted in, scored and/or edited the film then you're set. Additionally if your film is set in or concerns an aspect of the South or one of these states, then you're also set.

2) We really prefer films that stand out a bit. We’re not in this to make money, so we just want to make sure you understand that before you submit (and pay the fee). If you’re trying to make a Hollywood-styled film using (a lot) less money, it’s probably not the best fit for our festival. We like films that are “gritty” be that in form, content and/or attitude. But if you think that description fits you and/or your film, then please, please do submit.

3) We have three submission categories: Feature, Short and Student. The categories are determined by the following:
We also have special prizes for female filmmakers and for experimental/animated films. These films, however, do not have their own category and should be submitted under one of the three categories above.

4) All festival programming decisions will be made by the director and staff of the Indie Grits Film Festival and the Nickelodeon Theatre. Prizes will be awarded by the festival jury. Members of the jury will be announced soon.
