When I left the Whig late last night, the joint was still jumping. At least one filmmaker reported being locked in and leaving at 4 a.m. Indie Grits knows how to show the out-of-towners a good time.
I promised a word on the 8 p.m. Thursday movie, Modern Love Is Automatic. There's a reason it played alone, one of only a few films on the schedule to do so. Love is the singular story of a laconic --actually, she's even more deadpan than that -- nurse named Loraine who, for a time, moonlights as a dominatrix. Neither of her professions is treated with anything but the utmost respect, and her personal style looks like something out of Mad Men. To say any more would give the game away.
As a rule, pacing is key to surviving a festival. And tonight the festival interns have organized a party over at CMDA featuring four bands and an alleged circus theme, so I should rest up. --Amy
